2020 Hawaiian Electric Companies Hawaii VEX VRC State Championships
On January 10th and 11th, 37 teams from around the state came to the UH Hilo Gym to compete for one of 7 slots to the World Championship in Louisville, Kentucky. During the tournament, the weather was quite bad and it was constantly raining throughout the competition. Almost all teams had at least one problem, including us. This led to a less than desired result for the qualification rounds. Due to this, neither of our teams was selected for the elimination round. However, our team hoped that our interview, journal, and redesigns made to our robot were enough to convince the judges.
In the end, 4142A Pearl City High School and 4109A 808 Robotics were able to defeat 359B Waialua and 2437A Lancer Robotics to win the state tournament. Team 5968A Keaau High was able to win the High School Excellence Award. Our own team, 394A, was able to win the Middle School Excellence Award. 4142A was also able to win the Design Award. Due to the overlaps, 27301A Waianae Intermediate and 1037B Molokai Middle were also able to receive slots to the World Championship.
